Before deleting your island
A reset removes the selected user’s island progress and residents. If you only want to change one character, edit or remove that Mii instead.
To keep the old island and start another, use a different console user.
Delete the correct save
- Close Living the Dream.
- Open the console’s System Settings.
- Select Data Management → Delete Save Data.
- Select Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.
- Choose the user whose island you intend to reset.
- Read the final confirmation before deleting.
Avoid the separate option that removes all users’ save data. When you next launch the game as the selected user, you start again.
The old 3DS A + X + Y + B shortcut is not the reset procedure for this game.
Demo and full-game saves are separate
The demo is Welcome Version. Deleting its save does not reset an existing full-game island, and deleting the full-game save is not a safe way to repeatedly add demo progress.
Check cloud backup first
The game supports Save Data Cloud. Access requires Nintendo Switch Online membership and the corresponding Nintendo Account.
Open System Settings → Data Management → Save Data Cloud to check the actual game and user. Do not assume a backup exists just because the game supports the feature.
If membership expires, you cannot access the backup; Nintendo allows access to an existing backup again if you resubscribe within 180 days. There is no ordinary local backup function to rely on.
Deleting local data is not an in-game undo operation. Check that any backup you intend to use is available before making a permanent change.
