Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

Getting started

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Beginner’s Guide

At a glance

Create your first Mii, help with their needs, then add residents and introduce them to each other. Happy Miis level up, while new residents and friendships help open the island’s facilities.

Make your first residents

Choose From Scratch to build a Mii yourself, or Get Help to answer questions and generate one. Feed your first resident and respond to their problems before expanding the island.

Add more Miis as the tutorial opens up. To help two residents meet, pick one up and place them near the other. Keep checking their conversations and requests rather than waiting for everything to unlock by itself.

Follow the thought bubbles

Bubble What to look for
Yellow Food and everyday needs
Orange Friendship and social requests
Pink Crushes, relationships and other romantic requests

Open a request and respond to what that resident wants. Give food, clothes and interiors, then watch their reactions to learn their individual tastes. Filling the happiness gauge raises a Mii’s level and lets you give a level-up gift.

Early island milestones

Milestone What it opens
Your first Mii levels up Wishing Fountain
Three residents and a clothing request Where & Wear
Five residents Quik Build
Seven residents Palette House and Mii News

Some facilities also depend on friendships or events. Use the building unlock list when you have enough residents but are still missing a shop.

A simple daily routine

  1. Check residents for food, problems and relationship requests.
  2. Look at the food and clothing shops’ Daily Specials.
  3. Try new food and note each Mii’s reaction.
  4. Introduce residents and help with social requests.
  5. Check interiors’ Weekly Specials, which rotate on Monday.

Purchased items can be bought again. Short visits throughout the day give you chances to catch new requests; relationships do not follow a guaranteed daily schedule.

If the island stops progressing after the clothing tutorial, check whether you are playing the Welcome Version demo. Its stopping point differs from the full game.
